Review of "Protecting You" By: S Donahue

"Protecting You" By: S.  Donahue
Rating: ☆☆☆☆

"Protecting You" is a simmering bed of tension, betrayal and deception.  Joella Soriano is a Police Detective that has been ordered undercover as a stripper to root out a possible drug dealer at a club.  Slightly resentful, to say the least, she takes her resentment out on the hot owner of the club, Brendan Kirkpatrick.  This resentment is a partial cover for her attraction to him.  Brendan, on the other hand, doesn't hide his attraction at all and it is on show right from their first encounter.  With the club a hot bed of debauchery and no shortage of suspects, Joelle AKA Tiffany AKA Twisted Teaser has her work cut out trying to unravel who is responsible.  As she digs deeper she finds more questions than answers.

Joella is a woman who knows what she wants and won't be told no.  The men in her life would call her stubborn, she would call herself independent and confident.  She is not without her own issues, as she is still trying to come to terms with her fiancé's death while on duty as Police Officer.  This prevents her wanting to get emotionally attached to anyone else and she fights hard against the attraction and the feelings she has towards Brendan.  She is running scared.  Brendan is as determined as they come; knowing exactly what he wants, Joella, and going after it.  He never expected to feel anything for another woman but Joella just came in and knocked his defenses down. His need to protect those that are important in his life, brings him up against Joella's independent nature and lots of sparks fly between them.

With the bitchy Roxie, the kind Candy, the watchful Mike, the sleazy Billy and the down right dangerous Carmen, nobody is who they seem and it is difficult to work out who can be trusted.  With laugh out load moments, as Joella and Brendan try to navigate their way around matters of the heart to lots of tension as they try to get to the bottom of what's going on at the club.  This is a read that is fun, sassy and full of mystery.  A great read, with lots of twists and turns and characters that you want to read more about.
