Review of "Vouloir (Passion Noire #1)" By: J. D. Chase

The “tart with a heart” has won me over!

I tried to wrap my tongue around the title and even the character’s name but quickly gave up to instead dive into this riveting read. This is the first J.D. Chase novel for me and I didn’t realize it had characters from another series. This didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story at all but certainly has me looking for the other series now.

La Veuve Noire has two jobs – she is a Domme and she is also a sexual therapist. These vocations are both hands on, and require a good understanding of the human psyche. Needless to say, she handles both jobs very well with her own brand of frankness, directness and unique style. Sex is definitely a focus of this story but I love the way there is so much more. This is not a light read as it deals with a number of serious topics – suicide, sexual orientation, family function and dysfunction. The story is told through multiple points of view and that is a good thing as there is a lot going on here. There are multiple storylines and they intermingle and cross connect in unexpected ways. You will need to pay attention to catch all the nuances as the conversation and monologues are many. The past meets the present with one influencing and haunting the other. This “talker” had me glued to the kindle to the very last page. Oh, did I mention the incredible cliffhanger at the end? Yup, definitely kindle-throwing worthy.

I cannot wait for the next in this series. If you enjoy dark, adult, humourous (yes, surprisingly the quips and sarcastic humour are everywhere here) storytelling you will want to pick this up right now!
