Review of "Law of Five" By: Robin Mahle

Wow, I am still reeling from the ending of this book.  I was expecting it to be explosive based on what happened throughout but not that explosive.

Kate is trying to get life back on track after events of the previous year.  She has a boyfriend who will do anything to protect her.  She has a job in the PD which she enjoys.  She is studying for a degree which will give her more options in the justice system.  Her carefully constructed life is about to come tumbling down as a serial killer is on the loose.  When the killer strikes locally, it becomes apparent that he has an unhealthy obsession with Kate.

This is a complex case which takes place in a number of different places with very little time between the killings.  As they delve deeper into the crimes, they find themselves investigating the world of cults.

There was a slow build up to Kate's involvement in this case, which I liked.  It meant that we got to see where Kate is in her life after the previous year and how she is coping.  Once her involvement begins, the pace picks up quickly and we are bombarded with information from all directions, trying to unravel and understand the important information alongside those investigating.  This was a cleverly weaved tale that kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat right the way through.  A first class read.
