Review of The Truth About Kadenburg by T.E Ridener

"The Truth About Kadenburg" - Book 1 of the Kadenburg Shifters Series
by: T. E. Ridener
Ratings: ☆☆☆☆☆

The first book in the Kadenburg Shifters Series introduces you to most of the major players you need to know (the shifters - wolves and bears) and the rules and customs of each group. While Presley and Lorcan are the main couple, you learn about all of the characters in a wildly fascinating manner that is well-written, easy to follow, and SUPER interesting! At first, I was a little leery to read this series, as I thought it may feel a bit like the final fight in the Twilight series. However, I was VERY wrong. It took one chapter in the first book for me to be hooked, which is pretty early for me. I immediately felt a kindred spirit with Presley. Having gone through similar things, I identified with her early on. I love her determination and her independence, yet her complete ability (eventually) to depend on her chosen family. Lorcan was easy to adore, as his complete infatuation with Presley was genuinely heartfelt. The remainder of the characters are just as lovable and easy to read as Presley and Lorcan. I thought this book was extremely well written. It was very easy for me to follow the multiple points of view, as well as the many story lines for each of the characters. I loved this book so much that I immediately started reading the second one and put off work all day today in order to finish the second book. Although I'll pay for that later, I could not stop reading! I highly recommend this book (and the second in the series), even if paranormal/shifter books are not your usual genre. You'll genuinely enjoy the story and the characters!

However, Lily is tortured by constant reminders of their time together, and this does little for her resolve to move on.  Although, Lily has made her choice, it is also tinged with sadness. Her love for Alfie remains strong, and she fights a constant internal battle, between loving him and loving her music. Lily thinks it's impossible to have both. A fabulous opportunity arises for Lily, but there is a possibility of this bringing her face to face with Alfie again. Can Lily cope with the emotional turmoil this would bring her? Or, is the risk of seeing Alfie something she feels able to manage now?

Musically, Lily concentrates her efforts much more, which brings success, post Alfie. Through this, she finds friends in some of the most unlikely of circumstances. All of her friends continue to protect her, and are all well aware of the impact Lily's relationship with Alfie has had on her. All apart from Elle, who gives Lily food for thought. Although, Lily's mind is still plagued with memories of Alfie; which continue to impact on her to such an extent, Lily has been unable to form new romantic ties. Professionally, her relationships couldn't be better. She is offered some amazing opportunities rarely available, and is determined to do make the most of them. This is especially important to her, given the sacrifices she has made in the past to do this. Will Lily's music be enough for her, and prove to be everything she ever wanted?

His strong arms held me tightly, like he might never get the chance to

do this again. The front of his hard body came flush with mine. I
could feel he was aroused as he tilted his hips into mine. My body
went stiff, and I fought with everything I had inside me to resist
him, but I still craved the closeness with him.

Alfie let out a shuddery breath and kissed the skin on my neck before
drawing his nose the length of it and letting me go. In my head I was
telling myself to get out of there before something happened between
us. Because if it did... I knew I'd be lost to him all over again.

BOOK 3

I have lived my whole life with comments from both, relative strangers and close friends telling me I should write a book. People continually tell me I have an ability to tell a story and make even the mundane sound interesting. (I’m personally not aware of that.)

The thought of doing this, was something I never thought I would entertain, because being dyslexic, during my childhood and adolescence, I found it very difficult to get past how to spell something, never mind how coherent the sentence sounded. So writing a few paragraphs usually made me sweat.

As a child I discovered coping strategies and developed my own ways of getting by, I wasn’t stupid by any stretch of the imagination, but left school at fifteen without any academic qualifications. I wasn't diagnosed with dyslexia until I attended university at the age of thirty.

(Both of my children were diagnosed with dyslexia, one at the age of seven and one much later, although, I could see my traits present in him, and both have excelled academically in their chosen professions.

Thanks to the invention of the computer and information technology, my world changed. I learned how to communicate in written form effectively, not afraid to use language present in my oral skills that were lacking in my written work, for fear of spelling them wrongly, which gave me the confidence to write the books. Had I, had to write a book on paper, I know I would never have finished the first page.

I recently discovered the joy of writing after a challenge by a friend, which turned into three books. As I am constantly challenging others to face their demons, I decided, after some persuasion, to brave it out and share the books with others. I don’t have any expectations for them other than to tell the story.

This was a huge step for me, and took courage because there are so many fabulous clever people out there, writing amazing pieces of work that sadly, very few people ever see.

My work:  I have had the pleasure (and the drama) of working in The National Health Service and in an independent capacity for Social Services in the UK for many years. My work has been supporting many women, children, young people, and families during this time. Sometimes, this has been at some of the toughest or most vulnerable times in their lives.

During this time I have observed the communications of all parties involved both, in their relationships with others and how their decisions affect the subsequent outcomes for them and others. I have shared in the births and in the deaths of some of these people, and I never take advantage of the privilege my position brings me.

People ask what does the K.L. stand for K.L. Shandwick is a pseudonym. This isn’t to ‘hide’ behind, (I am not ashamed of what I’ve written), but to afford my clients the appropriate level of confidentiality by association. So, K L stands for KL. I am an independent author, who presently self publishes through kindle, but I hope to have a print copy of my books shortly.

Ratings: ☆☆☆☆☆

This is the story about Suzy and Joesph. Suzy was on her way home from a girl's night with her friend Sophia. On her way home her car dies, when a biker comes down the road. She doesn't know if he will stop and help her. The name of the biker is Joesph but goes by City, he goes by City because he is originally from Chicago. City takes a look at Suzy's car, but he can't fix it. So City offers to take Suzy to the Neon Cowboy so she can call a tow truck, but she has never been on a bike before. While at the bar she meets City's friends Bear, Tank, Hog,Frisco and Sam. After calling for a tow truck that wouldn't be out there until some time in the morning. Then City asks his friend tank if he would fix her car and told him that he would pay for it. So Suzy gave her car keys to tank. City took her home and asked her out on a date. On their date they go dancing and she doesn't like to dance. When Suzy arrives at work she tells Sophia about City. Sophia and Kayden invite Suzy and City over for a Barbecue. Kayden tells City not to break Suzy's heart. Suzy is a teacher and she has a list that she fallows about what type of man she wants to be with. She hasn't had sex in a year and she is very controlling. Doesn't have a good relationship with her family. City's real name is Joesph, he is a biker and has a lot of tattoos. City owns a tattoo shop with his siblings. I feel that city is trying to get Suzy to come out of her shell and have fun while trying new things. Sophia works with Suzy and encourages her to follow her heart and forget about her list. She is Suzy's best friend, she is engaged to Kayden and they have a son Jett together. Kayden is friends with Suzy, he is very protective of Suzy. He thinks of Suzy as a sister. Doesn't want to see her hurt. Tank fixes Suzy's car, is friends with City. Mikey is Joesph's brother and owns the tattoo shop with Joesph, does the piercings. Izzy is the only girl with four older brothers. She is a tattoo artist, owns tattoo shop with Joesph. She is also very loose lipped. Anthony is one of Joesph's brothers, owns the tattoo shop with Joesph, Izzy and Mikey. Tommy is the fourth brother, he is undercover cop. While reading this book I felt happy. I felt that I really connected with Suzy because she wants certain things in life and she is afraid of things that aren't in her plans. This is one of my favorite quotes from the book.” He asked me to be his girlfriend, Sophia. Can you believe that?”

This book was my first book by Chelle Bliss and it definitely will not be my last. Its a great book and very hard to put down. Chelle Bliss is an amazing author. I highly recommend this book.

J Speaks (L&J #1.5)

Excerpt

“I came here, baby, to tell you I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.”  He inhaled sharply, but said in an even voice. “And I can’t lose you before the greatest fight I will ever wage.”

Redemption. Could I absolve him? I lay in a hospital bed for two weeks. All of it at his hands. I’d been marred, though the scar on my skin was not the worst damage. It was a reminder of the scar I’d carried inside. Could he erase that scar? Could he heal a wound one could not see?

There was silence, deafening silence. I tried to keep it together. I used every ounce of energy I had to keep the fire at a low flame, but it blazed through me. He would’ve shot my kid, and I couldn’t let that happen. These kids, they’d become my lifeline. My light.

“Without those kids, I’m just as dark as you.” I said emotionlessly, empty. These last few weeks of pretending during the day, only to come home and sob until sleep graced me was maddening. “I’ve got nothing left to give you, J. Nothing.”

I hung my head, losing the fight with the tears that had been threatening to erupt since J arrived. “I can’t be your light, when I have none.”

We lay on the floor, two damaged bodies searching for the light. J pulled my head into his hands, bringing us face to face. I could feel his breath against my lips. “You were a comet that bust into my life out of no where” he whispered. “I begged for you. On my knees in the dirt, I groveled to the sky to bring me light. And there you were, at Eight Oh Eight, staring up at me, even though I knew you couldn’t see through the window. I saw you, though. Elle, I saw you long before you saw me.”

“How could I love a killer?”

“How much pain was worth loving this man?

“Please, baby. Please. I need you. I love you. I can’t go into this without knowing you’ll be here when I return.”
“I’m not sure what to say. I want to tell you I’ll wait. That I’ll be here, waiting like a good girl for you. I want to because I love you. Fuck, I love you.” I turned, finally ready to look him in the eye. “I don’t know where I’ll be. I can’t tell you that. But I can tell you that I love the fuck out of you, and no matter how much I try to stop,” I paused. Fuck this mother fucker. Fuck! God, why was he doing this to me? Angry tears, sad tears, hopeless tears, tears filled with longing fell from my eyes. J caught then with his thumb, but there were too many. They ran over his fingers like a waterfall.

“Fuck, J. I don’t want you to die.”
He pulled me to him, and I inhaled his scent. I’d never be able to smell Acqua di mother fucking Gio again and not think of him. Today it was mixed with the smell of exhaust, like he’d been riding around all night. For what felt like the gazillionth time, I crumbled into his arms. How did two times come to be a number exponentially higher?

“I don’t want to die, baby. I want to fall asleep next to you. I want to wake up next to you. I’m fighting this war for you. To be with you.”

Author Bio

Emily is a Midwestern Gal, but could be anywhere as you read this. She gypsy's the country, as well as south of the border. Adventure feeds her soul, and offers great writing material.

She loves kids and working with kids, but can only handle caring for four-legged furry friends. A crazy dog and laid back cat have trained her to be their partner in life.

Vices include Swedish Fish, ignoring chores in favor of reading, and caring too much for people in her life. She chose to write this bio in third person as she is an Aries, and found writing in first person ended up with her writing an excessively long life story.

Aries like to talk about themselves. It is something Emily is working on being more mindful of.
