Review of "Word Play" By: Amalie Silver

"Word Play" By: Amalie Silver
Rating: ☆☆☆☆

A book about books, readers, authors, bloggers, street teams, agents etc.  A tongue in cheek look at the book world, with everything exaggerated.  It is full of laughs and OMG moments and is genuinely good fun.

Michael's passion is in writing crime fiction but it doesn't pay the bills, so seeing that erotica was all the rage he turned his hand at that genre.  He finds the whole thing slightly vulgar and is ashamed of his work, choosing to write under the name Christoph Strong.  He is determined to protect his true identity but is thrust well and truly into the limelight at a book convention when a picture of him hits social media.  Enter the promiscuous blogger who will do anything to get a scoop and his nemesis pretending to be a blogger as she finds herself attracted to him.

Monica, aka Lauren, finds herself attracted to Michael after a chance meeting and realising that if he who knew who she was that she wouldn't stand a chance, passes herself off as a blogger.  Both have their secrets and these secrets could drive a permanent wedge between them.  When they are together, their conversations are fast paced, sharp and witty as they try to get one up on each other through their word play.

Set against the back drop of the book world, this book is interspersed with blog posts from Monica, where she interviews certain elements such as the ultimate fangirl, the multiple street team member etc.  These are hilarious as they look at the extremes of these, all done with a tongue in cheek.

With bits reminding me of 'Notting Hill' or 'Never Been Kissed', this is a perfect interlude for a Sunday afternoon for when you don't want anything too heavy or serious.  This was so much fun!
