ALL THE SONGBIRD NOVELS CAN BE READ AS STAND-ALONES.
Rachel Myers never meant to stay in Payton. Her eyes were set on bigger things than waitressing at Clark’s Bar. She wants to perform on a stage of her own with bright lights, fame, and fortune. But something got in the way—Joshua Clark. He’s a good man who loves her, a solid rock she can depend on. She wants that to be enough, but it hasn’t quelled her yearning for the big city.
Josh knows Rachel wants more out of life and might leave one day. Yet so far, she hasn’t gone anywhere. Deep down, he believes his love is enough to keep her…or at least he hopes so. Until one night, a city boy from Hollywood promises Rachel a record deal and destroys everything.
Jumping at a chance she never thought she’d have, Rachel leaves Payton. And Josh. But the sparkle of Los Angeles is not all it’s cracked up to be, and Rachel quickly figures out that some sacrifices are not worth the risk. Is she too late? Will Josh forgive her, or has her desire for fame ruined the best thing she’s ever had?
Sometimes you have to say goodbye before you can say forever.

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

Rachel has always wanted to be on stage, singing in front of big crowds. Her mother recognised her talent and made her promise to pursue this before she died. Finding her way to Josh and his bar was the best the thing that happened to Rachel in a long time but her dream is still there in the background. When the chance comes for her to make her dream a reality she jumps at it and doesn't look back leaving Josh heart broken. But her dream very quickly turns into a nightmare and she realises that her dream is nothing without Josh but is it too late?

Melissa Pearl has created another amazing read and demonstrates the seedy side of the music business, preying on young women's dreams. Set against a back drop of some amazing music, you get sucked into Rachel and Josh's story. While you should hate Rachel for the way she treats Josh and seems to pursue her dream without any thought about what Josh wants, you can't help but empathise with her as her life unravels around her.

With favourite characters from earlier in the series making an appearance and a hint of what is next in the series, you can't help but fall in love with this series.

Title: True Love
Series: Songbird #5
Author: Melissa Pearl
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 18, 2015

ALL THE SONGBIRD NOVELS CAN BE READ AS STAND-ALONES.
One night can change everything…
Nessa Sloan has been in love with Jimmy Baker since the ninth grade when they started up a rock band together. Five years later they’re about to hit the big time—Chaos wins a recording contract and nation-wide tour with Torrence Records. After their celebration party, the two best friends have a one-night stand that will tear their relationship apart.
On the run from Jimmy’s rejection, Nessa takes off on her motorbike, but an accident brings her escape to a tragic end. Now trapped in a broken body, Nessa has to face a future stripped of the one thing that’s gotten her through every past challenge—playing the drums.
Jimmy never meant to break his best friend’s heart, and he will forever regret taking her to bed then treating her like one of his groupies. But once he’d crossed that line, he couldn’t go back. Now Jimmy is on a mission to do something he’s never done before—win a girl over.
Angry and confused by her new disability, Nessa doesn’t want Jimmy’s help. But she has nobody else to rely on…and his pigheaded ass won’t leave her alone. Can these two stubborn hearts get past their own insecurities to figure out what true love really looks like? Or will they drive each other crazy before they finally see the truth?
It’s infuriating, irresistible, and all-consuming…it’s true love.

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

I completely love this series based around all things music. Each can be read as a standalone and each are unique in its style as well.

Chaos have just hit the big time but things between band members Nessa and Jimmy took a nosedive after a night of unbelievable passion. Nessa runs, bitterly hurt by Jimmy's actions and ends up in a life changing accident and no longer able to play the drums.

Jimmy recognises his feelings for Nessa but is scared by the prospect of commitment. Seeing Nessa hurt, Jimmy sets out to win her over and be the man she needs. Nessa, though, has to deal with the emotional and physical scars from her accident. The feelings of unworthiness from her childhood come flooding back.

This was a powerful story of overcoming personal insecurities, being yourself and taking a chance. It was an emotional read but an awesome read at the same time.
