Synopsis:
One of the hardest things I have ever had to do was bury my wife.
The second hardest thing would be watching my twelve-year-old daughter fall to her knees as they lowered her mother into the ground to rest.
A heart-wrenching vision that will forever be etched in my mind.
Claire was my best friend—she had been since we were barely old enough to talk. I always knew, one day, I would marry her. I think I may have even told her that a few times while we were growing up.
Never did I think I would lose her so suddenly.
I knew at that moment…
Our life would never be the same again…
“Come
on, Bailey, why don’t you let me get you home? You’re gonna feel
like shit in the morning, sweetheart.” Jackson stood up and took a
step toward her, holding out his hand.
“Oh
please, Jack, you need to just chill out and take a Viagra. I’m
fine, and I’m not ready to leave.”
Everyone
froze, staring at Bailey intently. Had she truly meant to say that,
or was that a drunk slipup?
Jackson
leaned in and placed one hand on each arm of her chair, then lowered
himself until his face was only inches from hers. “I can reassure
you, baby, I can go all night long, and I don’t need a little blue
pill to make that possible.”
She
tilted her head back and looked up at him with a puzzled expression.
He
smiled and licked his lower lip, and the way he looked at Bailey,
showing sure signs of lust, was causing me to feel a little
overheated. Jackson’s sexual energy seemed to flow off him in
waves. He never tried to hide it, and he sure as hell didn’t care
who was around when he decided to lay it on even thicker.
His
lips were so close to hers that it looked as if he was going to kiss
her. Instead, he murmured, “When you’re not so drunk, I’ll show
you just how long I can go. I’m pretty damn sure I can outlast you,
sweetheart.”
Bailey
turned her head in my direction, suddenly looking a little more sober
than she had three minutes ago. Our gazes locked, and her eyes
widened just a little. “I meant to say Valium,” she whispered in
horror.

Rating: ☆☆☆☆
Starting over is never easy….
Ryan Sawyer tugged at my heartstrings from the opening prologue. He lost his wife without warning, the woman he grew up with, his best friend. With the help of his parents and his brothers he kept working, loved his daughter, and stoically kept putting one foot in front of the other. Fast-forward three years later. Ryan rescues a lady in distress and finds he may actually be ready to open his heart again.
“You are my second chance at love, Am. You’re my new beginning.”
Needing a change and hoping to fulfill a life-long dream, Amber Dirksen, with her best friend Bailey, comes to town to re-open the local bakery. Being rescued by a few of the towns finest was unexpected but meeting Ryan was a shot to her already bruised heart.
Ryan is that wonderful mix of strong yet vulnerable, loving and loyal. He is a man who is torn and conflicted but always will put his family first. Throw in smoking sexy and you know how hard he is to resist. Oh yes, definitely a keeper. Amber is excited about the feelings that are growing between them but at the same time wary of starting a relationship. There is not just the two of them to consider and she knows that families are complicated at the best of times. There are bumps and hiccups, tears and sex, everything that makes a love story real and endearing.
Well-written, emotional and sexy, this story is a great start to a new series that is firmly on my TBR list. I can’t wait for more Sawyer brothers!
