Review of Escaping Camp Roosevelt by Bryan T. Clark

"Escaping Camp Roosevelt" By: Bryan T. Clark
Rating: 4.5*

When I get the opportunity to read a new-to-me author, I enter with a combination of excitement and trepidation.  I need not have worried here as 'Escaping Camp Roosevelt' is a thought provoking and heart warming read.

Tucker and Dancer are both homeless, living on the streets.  Tucker is trying to take care of his younger sister and drug addict mother, whilst Dancer is turning tricks to survive.  When their paths cross, the solitary Dancer finds himself wanting to help Tucker, whilst also fighting his attraction towards him.  The streets are alien to Tucker and surviving is challenge after challenge but with some help from Dancer, they may just survive.

Whilst this was very a romance story between Tucker and Dancer, it was set against the back drop of homeless community.  This element of the story is not sugar coated and the struggles are real: from the catch 22 of needing an address to get job but not being able to find somewhere to live without money from a job to wondering where your next meal is coming from.  I think this back drop brought something unique to the story that turned it from just another romance to one that will stick with me for a long while.
