Little Red
Press Legacy Book 2
by Elissa Daye
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance
Twenty-eight year old actress Rowan Montgomery has the role of a lifetime: the public image of World-Renowned Paranormal Author, Publisher, and closet Vampire--Claudia Woods. Since Claudia can't venture out during the daylight hours, Rowan’s spunk, good looks and knowledge of the vampire’s books makes her the perfect candidate to promote Claudia's work to the world while keeping her undead status a secret.
Rowan’s imagination could never have conjured her current reality; Vampires, werewolves, gargoyles, eccentric butlers named Igor, and other fantastic creatures are around every corner. Like living in some kind of strange mystical dream, Rowan finds the new world she's thrust into to be one of the most thrilling adventures possible. Attending author conventions, book signings, and author interviews, Rowan attempts to create the right public image for her boss while struggling to keep her desire for mysterious and antagonistic Ethan Wilder at bay. Every inch of his body is covered in sex appeal, and he knows it. Unbeknownst to Rowan, he is hiding a family secret that should send her running for the hills. Instead, she finds herself pulled in deeper.
Everything about Ethan makes her lose her mind. Rowan wants nothing more than to hold him at arm’s length, but his mere presence makes all sensible thoughts flee. If she lets him get too close, he could discover the secrets she must keep hidden from the world, especially if she wants to keep her job and all the perks that come along with it.
After a short time in the spotlight, strange things begin to happen to Rowan, starting with the appearance of wolves, that seem to be nothing more than a coincidence. Before long, threats come rolling in for the stand-in Author, and it becomes clear that not all is fair in love and war when it comes to the Book Industry. Rowan is caught in the crossfire with traitors, spies and snarling fangs around every corner.
How long will Rowan survive in Claudia’s world before she loses herself completely?
Excerpt
Rowan was surprised when he followed
her back to the table with very little complaint. When she didn’t
speak right away, he laughed aloud. “What’s so funny?”
“You. You’re like a timid
lamb. Good grief. When was the last time you were kissed?”
It had not been an innocent kiss
at all. The way his mouth had moved over hers was like some slowly
calculated domination over her senses. How did she respond to that?
“We were drawing a crowd, Ethan. Forgive me if I prefer to keep
some things private.”
“Fine. Would you care to take a
walk?”
“A walk? Right now?” Rowan
looked all around her. It had just hit her that Lydia had not shown
up at all. What if she came looking for her while she was away?
“Yes. Right now.”
“I don’t think so, Ethan.
Lydia might come looking for me.”
“Send her a text.” The heat
in his eyes was enticing. What was it about him that made her so
interested? He could probably charm his way out of Hades.
“Fine.” Reaching into her
handbag for her purse, she sent a quick text to let Lydia know that
she was done with the soiree for the evening. She got a text right
back saying that was fine. Rowan couldn’t help but wonder what
Lydia was up to at the moment, but when Ethan’s hand touched hers,
she found herself brought back to the present.
“Everything okay?”
Rowan cleared her throat before
answering. “Yes.”
“Ready to go then?”
“A walk, Ethan. Just a walk.”
Sure, but her mind wanted to do so many more things than take an
innocent walk with this handsome devil. She wanted so much more than
a stroll around town. In fact, her mind was already drawing up
several different scenarios that she wasn’t even sure were
possible. What was it about the bad boys that drew her in so easily?
“Sure. We’ll walk.”
The way he emphasized walk should have made her turn tail and run,
but Rowan could not persuade her body to move. He offered her his
hand, and she took it reluctantly. One little walk. Could it really
hurt?
As they walked, she took in the
city around her. Tall buildings stood out everywhere the eye could
see. Their windows were lit up like lanterns in the night sky. She
tried to pick out patterns along the way, but the lights were so
sporadic none could be found. When she looked up she could barely see
the stars, which made her miss Claudia’s house for the first time
since she had been here. The view there was breathtaking.
“A penny for your thoughts?”
“I was just thinking about how
different Austin is from my home. You can’t see many stars here.”
“I can.”
Rowan looked at him
speculatively. “Oh yeah?”
He pulled her closer to him.
“Yes. Two beautiful blue ones shining like neon lights. Absolutely
gorgeous.”
“You shouldn’t—”
“Shh...I’m talking.” His
mouth covered hers and his hands roamed down her back. He molded her
into him and Rowan melted. She never noticed as he inched her
backwards until her back felt the strong support of a brick wall
behind her. When his mouth moved to the corner of her mouth, then
across the curve of her face, Rowan could no longer remember what
they had been discussing. When his mouth nibbled the bottom of her
ear lobe, Rowan murmured softly against him.
“Ethan.” Rowan moved her face
away from him. “I thought we were talking.”
He brought his hand up to her
chin and forced her to look into his eyes. “We were. Are you
dissatisfied with the conversation? I can try a different subject.”
His hands threaded their way into her hair and pulled her head back
so that her neck was exposed. The jolt of electricity that shot
through her body when his mouth ran along the base of her neck almost
sent her over the edge, but she reined herself in, especially when a
bright flash of light interrupted the time and space around them. One
flash, followed by another, then another. Ethan seemed oblivious to
the lights, but when Rowan looked around she found the culprits
easily enough. Two men were standing further away with their high end
cameras, and were snapping as many pictures of their private moment
as possible.
Rowan shoved at Ethan to finally
get his attention. “I’m sorry. I have to go.”
