Maddy is at a party with monsters, witches, celebrities and a few other creatures. None of them react to her presence. Maddy is late for school the next day after the dream. Kelli and Maddy go go into the lobby for lunch,they have no idea who the new guy is until he stops talking after Maddy talked and he turned around. Justin is his name and he has found her, they stared at each other like there was nobody else in the room. Justin wants Maddy to go to Florida with him to see Ben because he tells her that she is in danger. Three years ago she was in the forest with her uncle Duane training. Duane told her that she is adopted and her whole life changed. She quit all her sports, she pushed her family and friends away from her. Maddy went to the park to go running and she sees a really good looking guy. MJ used a portal to watch her without her knowledge, places with a trifecta are listed inside every building in immortal city to ensure we are well prepared for any and all types of paranormal beings. Maddy experienced things while running, MJ and Maddy meet on a bridge they talked about where they lived, Maddy told him that she was born in Georgia what surprised him was that she lived in the exact states in the exact order of the murders. MJ found out that Maddy wasn't his charge and he tried to wipe her memory but he couldn't, he went back to heaven to find Maddy's file but he couldn't. She is unknown to heaven.

Maddy has dreams, her birthday is Halloween, she doesn't think that her family loves her. She doesn't know what she did to make someone want to kill her. She is a hollow and empty shell after being to that she was adopted. Wants to feel love for real, not by the people in her dreams, belongs to no one. MJ didn't expect to meet Maddy until Monday until he finds out that Maddy isn't his charge. He is really easy to talk to, he is assigned to protect Amber, He is also a protector. Ben is Maddy's ex and he lives in Flordia, twenty one. Justin is Ben's friend, has anger issues and he is a demon. Kelli is Maddy's friend, she is the only one who knows about Maddy's dreams. She is really loosed lipped when it comes to Justin. Duane is Maddy's godfather and uncle, trains Maddy and he is a shadow walker. Hannah is 9 months younger then Maddy and is Maddy's sister. Dean is Maddy's and Hannah's dad and is part of a band. Marie is Maddy and Hannah's mom. Damien is the man in Maddy's Dream, the dark prince. Elizabeth is the girl in Maddy's dreams.

I truly loved this book and I couldn't put it down. I have to say I loved Maddy and MJ the most. I also loved that they both MJ and Maddy had secrets. I also loved that all the characters were very well developed. I loved Laurie's style of writing and I can't wait for the next book to come out. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. This is my first book by Laurie and it definitely will not be my last.

My entire body pulses in the wake of his touch. His words “if you were mine” keep circling around in my head, and with each rotation, something inside me grows. He makes me feel happy and less broken. I feel I could take on the world as long as he’s beside me. Whatever he is, I don’t care. I’ve never felt anything like this, and I’ll go to Hell and back to keep it. Regardless of what happens to me, I have to protect him. I have to keep him safe, always. He grins and squeezes my hand again. My body responds with such intensity, I almost feel as if I were floating. I don’t want it to ever stop. I want to stay strong. I want to be brave. I want to feel safe. He gives me all of that. I want to hold him forever, even if it’s only his hand. “Tomorrow,” he says, pulling me from my thoughts. “I’ll find a way to see you.” “Promise?”

Excerpt 2

All I want now is to be near her—but that could be the very thing that kills her. “If you care for her, you’ll leave this house and never see her again. If she dies and she’s unknown to Heaven, that’s it. This otherworldly girl will either be sentenced to Hell or cease to exist. Can you face eternity knowing you brought that fate to her?” All the air rushes out of my body as the weight of her life once again rests on my soul. I turn back to her, memorizing as much as I can about her—the way her soft arms wrap around her torso, the color of her eyes that match the emerald gemstone still in my pocket, and soft pink lips I never got to touch. Goodbye, my Maddy. I stand and find the strength to walk out the door and leave the best thing that has ever happened to me.

My heart flutters. I really do like MJ. I blush and pop a few grapes into my mouth. As ecstatic as that makes me feel, I still don’t know, fully, if I can trust him—not until I know what he is. “So … you still haven’t answered my original question. Government experiment, superhero, or something else. Which is it?” He sighs, shaking his head. “I wasn’t created in a lab somewhere.” “What about an alien?” “No.” “Mutant?” “No.” “Warlock?” “Wouldn’t that fall under the category of magician?” “Magicians are usually fake. Warlocks and witches could be real. So are you one?” “No.” Stumped, I rest my chin on my hand and huff in exasperation. “Give up?” he asks. “No. But I’ve made some good progress on my list.” “You have a list?” “Uh huh.” I toss a few more grapes into my mouth. “Of what you think I might be?” I nod. “I don’t suppose you could just let it go?” I narrow my eyes at him. “If I did a bunch of crazy things that you couldn’t explain, would you let it go?” He smirks and shakes his head. “You win.

Author bio

Laurie Wetzel has always had a passion for writing, but it wasn’t until a New Years Resolution in 2011 that she finally shared her lifelong dream of being an author with her husband. He read the very first draft of Unclaimed and gave her the words she needed to hear, “This is what you need to be doing.” Three years later the first book in the Unclaimed series was published with the second book expected to be out in 2015. Laurie lives in Mankato, MN, with her husband and two young sons. When she’s not writing, working, or spending time with her family, she’s either reading, running, or catching up on her favorite shows on Netflix.
