Godcorp is a unique book that stands out with its well thought out plot, back story and characters. I mean, where else would you find the Devil as a possible love interest?
When Evie's on-again, off-again boyfriend is killed in a freak accident, she is convinced that he was taken before his time. She consults with the church, psychics and anywhere else she can think of to get the answers that she needs. The mysterious Lucius Devlin points her in the direction of the even more mysterious Godcorp.
Evie has the Midas touch but as she continues to seek the truth, her life starts to fall down around her as her focus slips. As she delves deeper into her investigation of Godcorp, she finds that it is heaven rebranded and it has a website and a call centre.
Lucius Devlin is temptation; sexy, hot and the devil incarnate. He wants Evie for his own company and for himself, having fallen for her big time. But what happens when the Devil wants you and claims you for himself?
Evie's persistence and single-mindedness is the reason that she gets as far as she does but at great personal cost. While she also falls for Lucius she is also still love with her deceased boyfriend. Who will she ultimately choose?
Lucius is a character of contrasts. He appears to be kind and considerate to Evie's needs and providing her with the tools she needs to get the answers that she wants. On the other, his past and his business dealings show him to be completely driven and selfish in his actions. There is certainly more to Lucius than meets the eye and his actions should not be taken at face value, after he is the Devil.
I loved this story, pure and simple. It deals with a difficult subject in a sensitive way and looks at the questions people ask themselves when they lose a loved one. The characters are all so vivid and just jump off the page at you and suck you into the story. The history of Godcorp and the Devil were fascinating to read and brought the belief of heaven and hell into the 21st Century. The story is unique and stands head and shoulders above the majority of books around at the moment. With its conclusion leaving lots more questions still unanswered, I can't wait to read the second installment. Watching the Devil fall in love is a new one for me!
