Review of "Among the Echoes" by Aly Martinez

"Among the Echoes" by Aly Martinez Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

This is a book that you need to plan on spending all night with! You won't want to stop reading until you've finished it. Erica is a young physician that finds herself in Witness Protection and on the run from some very bad drug cartel people. She's on the run with Leo the man that kept her from being killed but also was involved in the night that put her on the run.

Being in Witness Protection, having had to change location along with encounters with the bad guys has made Erica a bit of a jumpy basket case. She's just a shadow of who she was. During a relocation to Ohio, Erica meets Slate a highly known and recognizable professional fighter. While Slate makes Erica, now known as Reilly, come alive again, she knows that she can't risk being caught by the public with him.

Slate recognizes signs of abuse in her behavior and actions. He believes that she is on the run from an abusive boyfriend and he works hard to support her and work with her. Slate can't understand the relationship that she has with her cousin Dave (Leo). Slate's search to help Erica out puts her in danger and yet Leo pushes Erica to have a relationship with Slate, something that Erica fears will allow the bad guys to locate her. It is Leo's belief in Slate that keeps Erica involved with Slate.
There are a number of twists getting Erica and Slate to the end, and each twist is unexpected and not how you would expect it to go. Erica and Slate fight to the end. Slate helps Erica rebuild herself and make a future for both of them. This is definitely a story that you'll want to clear your schedule for.
