A sweet friends to lovers read, with a suspense element to it.

Mac fell in love with Sarah the first time he laid eyes on her. He has remained her constant friend ever since, wanting her to fly and chase her dreams and achieve her goals. But now she is back and he is not letting her go this time. She is his. Sarah pretty much fell in love with Mac at the same time but didn't realise she had a chance. No one else has ever made her feel as special as he has. Both have waited for the other.

Sarah is at a low point when Mac comes back into her life. Her dreams of being a teacher seem dead in the water with no job prospects and back waitressing at the local diner, living at home with parents who are controlling and trying to avoid a sleazy boss. Mac comes along and offers solutions to all her problems - her knight or cowboy in shining armour. The problem is that she wants to be in control of her own life but events force her to depend on Mac and his family as someone is set on bringing destruction to her life.

I loved the sweet way that Mac is with Sarah, wanting the best for her and wanting to protect her and keep her safe. I felt Sarah's struggle in trying to maintain control of her life in spite of events. It really was sweet seeing the two together and understanding the inevitability that they would get their HEA.
