Synopsis
Bradford Steel never believed in fate…until he met the girl of his dreams.
As sole heir to the Steel ranch and fortune, Brad knows what his future holds. He’ll marry and have children, but he’s not cut out for love. Fate has other plans, though, when he meets college freshman Daphne Wade—an innocent and beautiful young woman who loves sunrises, animals, and the color yellow.
Daphne is on her own for the first time, and she vows to make the most of every minute. Never again will she fall victim to the anxiety and depression that plagued her through high school. Instead, she’ll treasure the joy in even the most mundane and live her life to its fullest. When handsome senior Brad Steel shows an interest in her, she gathers her courage and dives in.
Their relationship moves more quickly than either of them expect, and before long, fate blooms into love. Brad is determined to eliminate all the obstacles in their way and protect Daphne. It’s a promise he’ll ultimately keep…no matter the cost.

Review
Rating: ☆☆☆☆

After following this series right through from the start and unravelling the mystery behind the Steele siblings' past, I went into this one slightly sceptical. I was thinking why do we need Brad and Daphne's story when I really don't like Brad and what he put his family through? However despite my reservations I did decide to read it and I'm glad I did. Everything we have learnt about Brad and Daphne is based on the snippets their children have managed to put together and we never really got to understand how Brad got himself involved in everything. This starts to clear all of this up and you get to understand that Brad didn't start out wanting to hurt anyone or become mixed up in anything. His bad choices in getting mixed up with Wendy and the Future Lawmaker's Club when he was still in high school will ultimately come back and bite him. Ultimately he wants the best for the people around him and when he meets Daphne it is clear that she is his future and not Wendy. It is this that starts a chain reaction to the events that follow. It is important to note that Daphne is fragile yet resilient and has a past that is kept from her. Somehow I think it is connected to this group.

What impressed me most here was that Helen Hardt managed to make Brad likeable. We have gone through twelve books hating his guts for what he put his children through and yet as college student he is all about doing the right thing and protecting those around him. You will always have in the back of your mind his future actions but by the end of this book I liked him and Daphne. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
