Although this the second book in this series, it can totally be read as a standalone. Whilst it is set in the sphere as The Orchard Inn, the actual location of the Inn doesn't really feature and I was looking forward to being taken back there. This book runs in tandem to The Orchard Inn. This book is based around River's city life, with his sister Harper and best friend Jax taking centre stage.
Jax is completely focused on his career and won't let anything get in the way of getting the promotion he wants. A masquerade event brings the promise of a night of passion until he discovers the woman behind the mask is his boss' daughter and his best friend's sister and totally off limits. Unfortunately for Jax, she will also be working for her father's company and Jax will become her mentor. Harper is determined to get what she wants and she wants Jax.
Harper is a strong, sassy, confident woman who goes after what she wants in the bedroom and she wants Jax. Outside of the bedroom she is still trying to prove her worth to her family and to please them. Harper has a seize the moment and live your life to the fullest attitude which compliments Jax's more serious nature.
I once again enjoyed the writing style and the characters in this book. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get more of the characters and the location from The Orchard Inn. That being said I soon got over this as I became immersed in Jax and Harper's story.
