Tales of the Guardian 3 was the easiest to read and the most captivating in the series so far.
Keri, Kerreth, their family and guards are quite busy in Taken. There is a lot of action and detail. This series is an intense read. If you’re a skim reader, you could miss details. Every sentence is a detail or explanation. I did have to put this book down and take breathers even tho I didn’t want to. I wanted to find out more about why Keri was going to be taken and how the people around her evolved.
A quick catchup – There are people that live among us humans that have special powers and gifts. They are the people of Outland Iis and have broken up into a number of clans. Those clans are currently at odds and have previously had clan wars. Whenever the Powers see a need a Guardian is born to protect and prepare the people for change. These Guardians are given Knowledge and Powers. Keri is the Fifth such Guardian of her people. She and her husband, Kerreth, have both come into their powers very young and fast. When she was younger she was taken prisoner and tortured. She has memory blocks of those times.
In Book 3: Taken, Keri is facing her fate that she is once again going to be taken prisoner. But she is doing it on her terms. In the first two books, Keri was coming into her powers and learning who she was. Now she is gaining more traits and skills of all the clans and their representative elements. Keri is pregnant with the next generation. She must face preparing to be taken prisoner again along with the imprisonment all while pregnant. Kerreth becomes stronger as well since he needs to be a match to Keri. He must stand by while not knowing what is going to happen to Keri and even after she is taken.
There was a lot of your enemy is now your friend in this book. There was a lot of sharing information that you would not normally share with your enemy and captor. Keri was more open than you would expect. I had to accept it because as it was explained, that she KNEW from the Powers that the clans were not supposed to be enemies. I’m still not sure I would have handled it as nonchalantly as Keri and Kerreth did.
At the end of the book, there is a vision showing that the need for a Guardian is not over yet. The book intrigued and kept me reading. It is not a book that you can finish overnight.
