Review of "Drowning" By: Margaret McHeyzer

"Drowning" By: Margaret McHeyzer
Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

This is such a relevant read right now and is a definite must read.

Margaret McHeyzer never shies away from the difficult subjects, meeting the challenge head on by writing books are emotional, engaging and inspiring.

'Drowning' tackles mental health head on.  Ivy is battling her inner demon who encourages and taunts her to self-harm through cutting, keeping it hidden from those around her.  Ivy believes she is unworthy.  When Tobias arrives at her school he seems to be as tormented as she is.  Ivy tries to stay away knowing that he will see the same in her.

I think it is clear from events that take place here and from personal experience that talking about how you are feeling and open communication with those you trust can help and that seeking help is not a weakness.

Ivy is someone that we should all aspire to, showing compassion to those around her and trying to understand people's actions, believing in people and not jumping to conclusions.  All is not as it seems in people's lives.

Margaret McHeyzer once again blew me away with her story writing, showing compassion and sensitivity for difficult subjects.  A must read for anyone and everyone whether they know lots or little about mental health.  This is one I will be encouraging my daughter to read when she is a little bit older.
