Book Title – Magic Unfolds
(Book 2 of The MysticSeeker Series)
Author – N.L. Greene
Blurb
For the first time in
her life, Becky had hopes of fulfilling her own dreams when Blaine
Winters inexplicably arrived into her quiet life, teasing her with
astounding possibilities she never thought imaginable. Not only did
he reveal that magic was indeed real, but he also stirred feelings in
her that she had only read about in clichéd romance novels. But
just as quickly as he appeared, he was gone. Then Becky’s life was
turned upside down by a family emergency. With the overwhelming
demands of running an elite law firm as well as her ex becoming more
of a threat each day, she didn’t have time for whimsical thoughts
or personal exploration anyway.
Now that Blaine has mysteriously
disappeared from her life, she can put her family first and focus on
what she needs to do. If only it were that easy. Blaine may be gone
and all of Becky’s little girl dreams of a world filled with magic
with him, but that doesn’t mean all’s forgotten. Nightmares are
plaguing her, someone is watching her, and there are powers within
her that she can’t seem to control.
Will Becky finally get her chance at
magic after all, even if she doesn’t want it?
“Ah!”
Becky sat up, her
body drenched in a cold sweat. The sheets and pillows lay strewn on,
across, and to the side of her bed. Her eyes dilated as she tried to
focus on the shadows and random pieces of furniture in the darkened
room. They frantically darted around, searching for the source of
her terror and what had awakened her from her deep slumber. Her
heartbeat thumped wildly inside of her ribcage, practically launching
itself out of her body. Shaky, clammy hands came up to touch her
face, feeling the cold sweat and curly pieces of red hair stuck to
her flesh. Fear coursed through her veins with the adrenaline
pumping her into flight or fight mode. Shadows played off the
furniture in her sleeping quarters, illuminated by the light of the
moon shining through her window, only serving to heighten her
irrational fear. With labored breath, she reached over to her empty
night stand and flipped on the lamp to shed light into the room and
hopefully onto the memory of the nightmare that woke her.
With the reassurance
that there was nothing or no one in her room, she closed her eyes and
tried to get a hold of herself, pulling her knees up to her chin in
an attempt for comfort. Taking in a deep breath, she exhaled heavily
before looking over at the clock which read a few minutes after the
midnight hour. Despite her being alone, she couldn’t shake the
feeling that she was being watched. Goose bumps layered her arms in
a pitiful attempt of protection or maybe warning of things that
lurked in the midnight hour. Sighing, she stood, feeling the soft
fabric of her loose t-shirt sticking to her sweaty form as she padded
her way to the window. Gripping herself in a firm hug around her
middle she peered out of her window into the darkness that blanketed
Central Park below.
Becky’s heart
finally managed to calm to a steady beat as she focused on the still
of the night, finding it oddly soothing to her senses. Her mind
wondered, trying to salvage anything of importance that could have
caused the current state she was in, only to come up empty. “What’s
going on with me?” she whispered aloud before looking up at the
moon forlornly, placing the palm of her hand on the cool glass as if
trying to touch the glowing ball.
There were no answers there for her.
Shaking her head, she glanced back down at the streets below, getting
ready to return to bed before something flickered in the peripheral
of her vision. She focused her sight as much as she could on the few
stragglers on the streets and the couples walking hand in hand at
such a late hour in the park, then past them to a lone figure
standing in the distance. Squinting, she tried her best to make out
the figure that reminded her so much of one that was burned into the
deepest depths of her memory, before blinking. When she looked again
with refreshed eyes, the figure she thought she’d seen was gone.
