Emery knows who she is now, and what she has to do.
She must beat the darkness, right?
But what if the darkness is actually her light.
Just as life begins to make sense again the world around her changes once more, making her question everything.
Emery’s beginning to realize she’s only scratched the surface, and the dig down will require more strength than she ever imagined.
The danger—she may uncover something she’s not prepared for.
Sometimes you have to sacrifice to win.
I must fight to save her—Kade
I have to survive so I can save him—Emery
There’s a stillness in the air like all the moisture has been sucked out of it. I know, without a doubt, that the tranquility is a ruse. Something is coming—but it’s not here yet.
Ignoring the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, I keep walking. The sun is low in the sky, and I wonder how long I have until the night comes. I’ve pushed through every physical barrier my body and mind has built up today. Not stopping for more than ten minutes at any time, I’m beginning to feel the weight of my decisions.
My world is crumbling around me. Soon the stars will start falling, and the earth will blister as it cracks open. I can feel it, feel the power within me building, threatening to overthrow sense and madness as if it’s all the same.
With every minute that passes, another piece of his heart breaks from mine. I don’t know how or if it’s even possible, but somehow, whatever entwines us, is unraveling. He’s becoming less like my Pith with each moment. I feel the truth and wear it like a second skin. Even though he’s not with me now, my head and my heart don’t recognize Kade as mine anymore, and I’m scared. Terrified actually. I’ve been avoiding the one thought that will destroy me if it becomes a reality. If we’re somehow turned, pulled apart, and our souls fractured, will that mean we can hurt each other? Kill each other? Will he still care if he hurts me?
