Series: A Boys of Winter Novel
Author: S.R. Grey
Genre: Sports Romance/Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 28, 2019
My name is Noel Sandlund and I play professional hockey—defense to be exact.
I lead a pretty good life. I’m not hurting for money and the ladies seem to like me.
And now things have gotten even better—I think I may have fallen in love.
See, while I was in Sweden playing in the world hockey championships this off-season, I met Maisie Troy.
And, man, she’s it for me.
Confession time:
I’m Maisie Troy.
This summer I met a man who’s everything I’ve ever wanted and more.
His name is Noel and he’s hot and sweet and plays amazing hockey.
I think he could be the one.
Too bad there’s one huge problem—I’m not who he thinks I am.
No, I’m just an illusion.
An illusion that’s about to shatter . . . like ice.
Illusion on Ice is the seventh standalone novel in the bestselling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.
"Hilarious and perfectly 'played' sports romance that I devoured in one sitting! I can't wait to read more." - #1 NYT Bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken
REVIEW"The usual Grey crisp writing, lovable heroes that you kinda want to slap, and a heroine that doesn't back down," Resistance on Ice is another fun standalone novel in the bestselling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.” - Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author Ilsa Madden-Mills
Rating: ☆☆☆☆
So this one had a slightly different feel to the rest of the series so far. This was because it took place outside the hockey team we have come to love and takes place as USA takes on the world in Sweden. It meant that it was missing some of the familiarity of the others in this series.
Noel is the hockey player in question in this book. He is quiet and unassuming, whose focus has been on hockey. Whilst his domestic game didn't go to plan, he has a second chance representing his country. When he meets Masie in a bar after a game, he seizes his opportunity to pursue something with her. What he doesn't know is that Masie has an ulterior motive for being there.
Masie is a complex character, with feelings of unworthiness because of her difficult upbringing. This brought with it a mixture of feelings towards her as she doesn't shower herself with goodness to start with. As you start to get under her skin and understand where she is coming from, you begin to have a great deal of empathy for her.
I enjoyed this as I have all the others in the series.
