A good summer read…
This was the perfect book to pick up right before the start of the summer Olympic Games. Lacy is an Australian swimmer and is determined to make the most of her second chance at possible Olympic gold. She’s had a tough road to get here as she struggled with the pressure of life as a competitive swimmer. Family problems and issues with self-confidence have held her back but she has a support team now that has her back, she is not going to fail them or herself… Meeting Coby at the trials means her journey has taken another turn but this one… this one could be the best of all.
I was looking for a light, summer read to get me into the spirit of the games and I got much more than that. It was definitely light-hearted at times with Lacy’s bestie Caro, and her new beau East, providing many of the funniest moments with their foul-mouthed antics. And I couldn’t help but enjoy them as well as Lacy and Coby as they got to know each other under the pressure-cooker of competitive sports. The problems they ran into could have been pulled from news headlines and gave some great insight into the inner-workings and politics behind the scoreboards. While the drama may have been a bit overdone and juvenile at times, that didn’t mean the tension, passion and emotion were any less sincere. These were characters that could be your best mate or your closest friend and I couldn’t help but cheer them on in the pool as well as on the sidelines.
