Review of "The Absence of Olivia" By: Anie Michaels

Where there is love there is loss…

I enjoyed this well-written story that focused on the life, and loves, of Evelyn, Olivia and Devon. While not a love triangle, the relationship between the three is certainly not a straightforward one. The timeline bounces between their college days and the present as Evelyn chronicles the many facets of her friendship with her best friend Olivia and the feelings she also has for Devon. The emotional turmoil that Evelyn goes through feels very real and this doesn’t end when her best friend dies. In fact, things seem to get even rockier.

Evelyn is an independent, smart woman yet love can bring anyone to their knees. This is not a story that develops over days, weeks or even months. Evelyn’s secrets are held for years and affects any romantic relationship she has. Devon is not so easy to figure out as the mixed signals are a bit confusing as time goes on.

There are twists and turns that kept me guessing all the way through but an unexpected ending that was the perfect conclusion. A new author for me but definitely one on my TBR shelf.
