Is there
really such a thing as a quarter life crisis? You bet your ass there is. We
should be married, maybe with kids, have a great job - but have a body like you
don’t, and have our lives all figured out. There is this existential pressure
on women to have it all and do it all. Even if you rebuff this pressure,
subconsciously, it’s still there. Middle fingers up to assumptions about where
we should all be with our lives at a certain point. Am I right?
I’m Laura
Kincaid. The last year of my life has been what dreams are made of, but I think
I’ve forgotten my own dreams. My best friend and I traveled across the country
with no responsibilities. However, the lack of structure and routine got to me,
and now I’m a little lost and I can’t figure out why. I’m a planner, a doer,
and a lover of all things sparkly. My quarter life crisis started one night
when I realized I was in love. Don’t worry, reading about my hot mess will make
you feel better about yours.
Review
Rating: ☆☆☆
If you are new to this series and this is the first book you are thinking of reading, I would suggest you read book one first. I came to 'Midnights & Mimosas' first and I felt that I was missing a lot of Laura and Max's back story.
Laura is working alongside her best friend Megan, who won the lottery. Laura has had feelings for Max for a long time but never done anything about it as she feels that he deserves better because she is broken. Laura is still grieving for her fiance who died two weeks before their wedding. Max is a former military man who is trying to put his life together after losing his brother in arms and his leg. He also thinks he doesn't deserve Laura because he is broken.
The problem I had with this was that we didn't actually get to meet Max until about 30% into the book but there was lots of referring back to past events. It felt as though I was missing parts of the jigsaw. Now don't get me wrong, I laughed at lots of different points of this book and I felt the emotion of these characters at different points in the book. I am going to go back and read book 1 in the hope that it helps fill in the gaps.
